I had it badly about 20 years ago. It hurt so much that I had trouble sleeping. The dentist made a small plastic thingie to slip over the teeth - to be worn while sleeping. I used it for a few months and the TMJ went away and hasn't returned. It must have realigned the bite.

I think those are also to prevent you from grinding your teeth at night. I have been under tons of stress lately, and who knows but I might be gnashing and grinding my teeth the whole night through.
If it keeps up, I will see a dentist. I wear a retainer at night as it is ... so it would have to be something I could wear with that.
If it weren't for the fact that it really hurts, it would be funny .... all I have to do is bite down just the tiniest bit wrong and the next thing I'm grabbing my cheeks and cursing.
I think when I land in Monterey and have a few days to just go zen listening to seminars (on such thrilling topics as the tax treatment of corporations), then I might relax a bit. It's a few days off from painting, mopping floors, sawing, drilling, and cleaning cat boxes ... oh, and from walking doggies .... and work (almost forgot that).
