trocchietto,
Yes, those firmware files are for Windows. I don't know where to find safe versions for Mac or Linux.
I do not follow the e-ink technology too closely, but are there now rgb pixels?
If colors are still made by color filters on the regular black and white pixels (as in Triton and Triton 2) - then color e-ink has to be pale. The integrated lighting might help it in that regard, but for actual reading of books black and white letters are clearly of worse contrast and quality than without the color filters. And the colors themselves worse than on lcd tablets. It is a lose/lose proposition.
You have bad black and white and bad color.
I am against using tablets for reading, but a tablet actually might be better than color e-ink.
I think that e-ink should remain black and white. For color, new technologies are coming.
All the tablets will switch to one of them very soon in order to be usable in sunlight and to extend the time between charging. Possibly some of those technologies will be easier on the eyes for reading as well compared to lcd. So I propose look there for color, not to e-ink.
Even if they invent actual e-ink color pixels (some of those new technologies are pretty close to e-ink color pixels) - that will still reduce the black and white quality.
So I want pure black-and-white e-ink technology for reading books. Preferably on a flexible screen, not glass, if a similar contrast can be achieved.
I heard that Wexler Flex One has very good contrast?
