Have you tried a powerful enough desk light? Or several large led lights mounted on the wall where you can change the direction of each separately or switch on/off them separately - I'm sure you could find the best lighting configuration for you.
With a specialized lighting you can have very well lit screen, just as well as you need.
Of course, that ties you down to a fixed reading position somewhat.
