I do have facebook, twitter, G+, and LinkedIn. I use them for very different purposes.
Facebook is only familly and a few close friends from college. privacy setting default to friends only, but occasionally I open a post to a wider audience.
twitter is all the technical people and what is going on in the local technology world. Also for following my daughters teen angst.and some beer related stuff.
G+, hobbies and technology. lots of home brewing / craft beer stuff and woodworking, photography, etc.
LinkedIn. despite a earlier comment it has cleaned up most of the spammy stuff. I only link to people I have personally met. career networking and nothing more.
