Manually sideloading the firmware files might be all you need to do. The firmware automatically looks for them and does the install. See

But, I would try deleting the database first. In fact, I would delete the whole ".kobo" directory. If this doesn't exist, it will prompt you do do a setup. This will include installing the latest firmware and getting you to login.
