On my Mini the battery meter becomes more clear as the battery level is getting lower. Also, when viewing the top bar menu, it's possible to see the battery remaining percentage.
It's the usual Mini behaviour.
If your Mini doesn't display those two things, then I believe there must be something not right with your unit. Is it a new one?
