A description that makes the characters seem like real people (as opposed to sounding like Mad Libs) will suck me in provided it's already in a genre I'm interested in.

Also: giving me a hint as to how the author's take on X is unique, instead of telling me that it is.

Going slightly beyond the blurb, if I come across a well-written blurb, and clicking the "look inside" shows me a beginning that is also well-written and feels like it's written by the same person - that is a win.
