Even a pinky lets out a lot of blood. I lost two finger tips (about a half inch off the two left middle fingers) to a jointer and it hurts like hell and you loose more than you think. If you loose a thumb it is considered a loss of 60% of your dexterity. In the process it cut my musical career completely.
Think of building a jig for whatever you need to do.

But, it was already done. The thumb was ripped off and reattached years ago. Although my boyfriend really mangled his trying to drill into some metal a few years ago, and he lost quite a bit of feeling and dexterity ... which made it miserably hard for him to play the guitar.
But ... mine healed up pretty well, all things considered. And, right now, I'm going to head back out there and finish the project. I bought the new saw, and got it set up, and finished cutting most all of the wood. I just have to finish the trim and then paint it. Which needs to be done by Tuesday.
So .... off and running ....
