Even a pinky lets out a lot of blood. I lost two finger tips (about a half inch off the two left middle fingers) to a jointer and it hurts like hell and you loose more than you think. If you loose a thumb it is considered a loss of 60% of your dexterity. In the process it cut my musical career completely.

Think of building a jig for whatever you need to do.
