The Frog Princess series by E. D. Baker.

Although geared toward younger readers and was bought for my daughter, was enjoyed by my wife as well. It's not really a dumbed-down-for-kids fantasy series as it is more of a nothing-too-adult-added fantasy series. What I consider as a safe-for-all-ages read.

Edit:
This is the basis for the Disney movie of the same name, but the two are totally different aside from the princess-into-frog mishap.
