You probably won't get the real story from official sources. The estate of Dr. Seuss have conspired with the publishing industry and the Illuminati to cover it up the truth since the books are far to valuable monetarily and as propaganda to fall into disrepute.

Carlos K. Crinklebine suffered a mental breakdown shortly after the incident, and disappeared under suspicious circumstances.

The Cat died shortly after the disappearance of the fish. An autopsy revealed that he had died after choking on a fish bone.

Police initially suspected that Carlos was attempting to murder the Cat in a bizzare murder/suicide. They have since changed their story, claiming that the Cat's death was a coincidence and that Carlos is currently in hiding in a South American river. Friends of Carlos claim that it was actually a botched murder attempt by the Cat.
