To each his own. I find having the frontlight on boosts contrast in slightly lower-light situations (like inside my house or on a train), and the frontlight on my Aura easier on the eyes than a backlighted LCD, but your mileage clearly varies.
Luckily, it has an off-switch (on the Aura at least)
