Sure, I understand, but that goes with collections. For those of us that don't use them the problem is non existant.

Anyway, deleting a book needs various steps, select the book, utilities, delete and confirm. Seems hard to do all this by mistake in the wrong book, in the wrong place, at the wrong moment. It would be far easier to just drop it and nobody is asking for a string to tie the Reader to the wrist.

There may be a way around it though. Sort of a compromise. Suppose you name the collection books starting with a code (Aubrey-Maturin books by Patrick O'Brian would start with AM1-Master & Commander, AM2-Post Captain...), so you have all your collections together in the title index and you can freely delete them. It is not exactly the same, but you have all your collection books bunched up together and in the right order. If you want your collections to be after all the independent books, just add zz to the code (ZZAM1-Master & Commander). All your collections will be behind your independent books and in good order. I know it is not the same, it is a compromise.

On the other hand, I still don't know if the reader's new firmware can delete collection books properly on it's own, which would fix the problem straight away.

You try to delete this book only to find that you've accidentally deleted a book that was part of a collection. Your 500 now needs a reset. You don't have a pin or paperclip or anything on you to fit in the hole to push the reset button. Now you finally find a shop to purchase something to push the reset button with. You find that the collection that book was in is no longer able to be navigated to due to the deletion. So until you can get back to the computer to sort things out, you are left with other books unable to be read and you may also look your last page read and even any bookmarks.

Now I don't know exactly what will happen on a 500 when you do delete a book that's in a collection so some of what I put is just a guess based on the usage of my 505. But, I did try this on my 505 and found that I had to hit the reset button, delete the collection, and recreate it.
