That missing touch screen doesn't make any port attractive - at least that's my humble opinion. And as was said before - it probably won't be easy, since we're talking about a SoC processor core featuring a different ARM generation. Not sure if Amazon's software really uses its new features, but my guess is: yes, they probably do use a toolchain targeted at the newer CPU.
