Personally, I prefer e-readers.
I have a 10' tablet (ASUS TF300) and I've read a few books in it, but I can never read for more than 30 min~1h at a time because my eyes get tired. I used to think that I didn't need an e-reader if I had a tablet that could do the same thing, but when I first tried my brother's kindle my opinion completely changed. It's so much easy on the eyes and it's like reading a real book. I bought a Kobo Aura a few weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. I still use my tablet a lot (it serves as a personal laptop, basically) but I use my e-reader just as much when I want to read. Plus, e-readers are much more portable - I always take my Kobo to work now and I never took my tablet because it was too big and too expensive. 6'~7' screens also seem to be the best for reading, in my opinion.
EDIT: By the way, when I used to read on my tablet I tried pretty much every ebook app available and the best I could find was Aldiko (I got the premium version after trying the free one). Fabrik also has a lot of potencial, but it still has a few problems (slow to load, lag, requires you to be always online, doesn't let you change covers, etc.).
EDIT2: Almost forgot, being able to read outside in the sun and the much longer battery life are also important factors.
