took kobo aura #2 back to store (Chapters/Indigo) but this time i went to a different branch of Chapters in the off chance this store got a different batch of readers. after the exchange i had them open the box and start the thing. crank up the light to 100%. looked good in the store. got home and set up the wifi etc... left it on at 100% light as it charged. after an hour still looking good. no pin holes.
the only oddity. when i was setting up. even tho i chose English as my language the keyboard looked like it was greek. Instead of the ABC button being ABC it was odd characters. thankfully i do not have to use the keyboard much so as long as it reads in english and no pinholes i am happy.

I think the only language with "odd characters" is japanese and it should only come up when a) the interface is set to japanese and b) the book you are reading is japanese (and you want to take notes or something)
I wonder if something is corrupted. If you aren't too far along, I would do a sign out and sign in and if that didn't work a factory reset. You might not use the keyboard that much, but I know I personally would rather sort the problem at the beginning than after I've perfected everything to my liking.
