I assume you have your laptop with you while you are on holiday, and that you are attempting to use the hotel's Wi-Fi to make a "wireless device" connection. If this is is the case then it will almost certainly not work. Reason: the vast majority of hotels that offer Wi-Fi block connections between devices in the hotel. This is done for security. They do not want any possible responsibility for someone getting their computer hacked by the person in a nearby room.
To do what I think you want to do, you would have needed to set up a calibre content server on the internet before you left in the way theducks describes. It might be possible to do something with VPNs (virtual private networks) but the complexity is very high.
