6. Sun dog. Ice crystals in the upper atmosphere cause refraction and the appearance of a ring of lightish colour around the sun or actually spots. Generally it is said to indicate a shift in the weather, usually to the colder extreme. While it is normally associated to the winter months (at least in Canada), I have seen them in the summer on occasion.
