And I can tell you as someone who is allergic to chocolate, there is a qualitative difference between European and American flavors (versions I mean). I can eat a full hershey's bar before getting mildly ill. But one of those little tiny Swiss Chocolate rectangular confections takes me out for a day!
While many Europeans consider American "chocolate" Evil Incarnate... I am glad it's so weak, because I like it and don't die a slow death every time I eat it. But let's get one thing straight, I'm no moral relativist! One man's evil being another man's good only works in Chocolate World!

To be clear, M&Ms are not made by Hershey, but by another US company (Mars/M&M). So a decision by Hershey does not necessarily indicate anything about M&Ms.
That being said, I'm glad Hershey is able to provide an acceptable "chocolate substitute" for you.
