Question How to reverse the update's horrible "design choices"?

Yesterday I hooked up my Kobo Glo to my pc to charge it, and I opened up the application to let it update for a bit. After I turned my pc off later that night, I took the e-reader without looking at it and put it in my bag.
This morning I found that it apparently received quite some changes while hooked up to the pc!

1) The cute kobo dude (e-reader with face) is gone! Now it just says sleeping, or powered off. Bah.
2) The minimum side margin is now rather big. Why?? Now all that space is lost.
3) The margin on the top is even bigger! More space lost! Now it's just unused empty space, while the title used to be there.
4) The home screen looks terrible! A search bar? Why would I need a search bar?! Why can't I just have my book library be my home screen?
5) The light brightness button is hidden in the settings menu.. why? It's not like the space at the bottom is used for anything else...

I don't get it. Why did they do this? Why get rid of your cute mascotte, why make the minimum margins a mandatory .5cm while before we could set the minimum to the actual minimum (.1cm or so?)? Why hide the title?
Why change everything that's logical and intuitive for the worse?

Sooooo here's my obvious question: is there any way to go back to the way things were? Is there some secret way to edit the above settings? Or should I just roll back to a previous version (and if so: how?)?

And for a bonus question: There's a setting that lets the device power down automatically after one hour. Is this useful? I thought that sleep mode didn't use any power? To me it would make sense to make the device auto-power down after say, 24 hours or so, but 6 seems to be the maximum. Is there any way to change that too?

Thanks!
