Because "Show Full Definition" button enables the user to jump to the dictionary. It is an important feature especially for language learners. Once you look up the word "stick", you can also view the words "sticker", "sticky", etc.

Moreover, some words have two different headwords, e.g. "may" and "May". However, definition window shows only one of them. If you can jump to the dictionary, you can view the other meaning. Besides, it is not logical to merge these two irrelevant meanings under one headword.

Finally, if you look up an word and get "No definition found!" error, how can you work around? Either you will close your book open dictionary etc. and turn back all those steps. Or quickly, you will look up just another word and click "Show Full Definition" button to jump to the dictionary so that you can search whatever you want.

Actually, these problems seem to appear rarely but it is not the case for me, may be also for many other people who read books in non-European languages.
