I have a kobo glo too, and the same thing happens. I changed the settings that you gave me, excludes languages ​​in these fields, changed the variables in those languages (articles), put None in some fields, moved to 'strictly_alphabetic' or 'library_order' and the problem persists.

You are right to say that the problem is not the 'title' or 'title_sorting'. Seems like kindle/kobo ignore the article and always shows title sorting in library as:

name1 name2, article
