I don't have a Kindle, so I don't know if this will work.
In Edit Metadata, change the languge to Spanish. In Spanish, the articles (a, an, the) are not recognized.
Maybe you can fool your Kindle into thinking that "The Lost Symbol" is in Spanish and it won't change the title.
Again ... this is just a wild guess!
