well, first, what is "rubbish" to you is "much-needed catharsis" to another and "harmless, good-natured fun" to a third. and that list is not exhaustive.

second, i have the feeling that there is more of *everything* around here and that trend will probably continue, as ebooks enter new markets (the french forum seems to have more new members every day, and there seem to be a lot of new members from the UK as well now that sony is available there. have you not noticed how many new members there are ?). the whole site is growing and i think that is a good thing. if growth in general is what worries you, then you might be in for a difficult time.

third, i'm glad you don't feel anything is "missing" from the lounge, but i would again encourage you to participate with posts on subjects that interest YOU, because that is the place for them and i am sure you could have some interesting things to add.

one of the best things about this site is the community, in my opinion, and i am convinced that the activity in the lounge is vital to creating and developping that sense of community. it is, in a sense, a catalyst for site-wide participation, from greeting the new members to answering questions to pointing out ressources that the (exponentionally growing, i remind you) new members don't know about, even though those questions have been asked and answered before and the ressources are there for the world to see. if people are in a good mood because they were just laughing at a silly thread, they are much more likely to want to help out a new member who feels completely lost and overwhelmed, than if they are just stopping in for 30 seconds to download a few ebooks or check if there is a new firmware update.

sometimes even experienced members need help, and might get some from someone who stopped by for some silliness in the lounge. isn't that a good thing ?
