You're assuming he didn't. Medicine is amazing stuff, and it's come a long way, but we're all going to die some day. We never know when it is, or whether we'll be given the chance to prepare for it the way Mr. Flynn was.
I felt like he was out of ideas, and his books tended to rehash the same moral dilemma (how to defeat the monster without becoming the monster.) But he knew how to write a page-turner and I'll miss my annual Mitch Rapp story.
RIP Mr. Flynn.
