Finished The Good Earth by Pearl S Buck. I really enjoyed this story. It's quite clearly part of a series as it ends leaning towards the second book. However, as much as I liked the book, I'm not that interested in continuing the saga.

I really liked the main character and the book basically followed him from the age of a very young man to an old man about to die. It was fascinating in its portrayal of the rural Chinese farmer, the view of women as slaves, the relationship between the main character and his own wife and the effect of wealth not only on him, but also on his sons.

I felt rewarded for having read it, but for the moment, it's enough.

Next, I'm moving on to another indie author, Barry Napier with his novel Cold Compass. When selecting it for review I thought it could shape into an exciting read. However, the prose seems a little mediocre now that I've started. Hopefully it picks up.
