If we really want to maximize view for scanned book (pdf) then the best way (when sony's autocrop + fit-to-landscape is not good enough) IMHO is to use Briss(or Pdfscissors) for cropping the white borders and then simply print-to-file this cropped pdf in Adobe Reader 11 (or Acrobat) using Posters mode (Tile mode in Acrobat) for Sony screen dimensions (about 120x90 mm).

It will take about five minutes for cropping and another five minutes for printing of an average book on average laptop.

Or just use k2pdfopt.

Or for those who don't mind rooting, use Orion app after rooting.

Of course this is not recommended for A4 sized pdf's (21 cm page width) but for pdf's with page width less than 16-17 cm (6 inch).

For A4 pdf scans we can use reflow in k2pdfopt beforehand or if it is 2-column (or 3-column) A4 pdf use Sony's 2-column mode.
