The seller : It should be easy getting my money back. WH Smiths are a reasonably reputable firm and the device doesn't work plus it wasn't the device I asked for. It was relatively easy to order the correct model over the web and it's from the same firm so I don't foresee any issues.

Set up : I haven't set it up yet as it doesn't come out of the "updating firmware" screen. It's a new device in a sealed box so I'm a little confused why it was on that screen in the first place.

Mini-which-happened-to-be-something-else : If you're asking how did I make such a mistake then it was because there was an offer on the web saying that they had the mini for £30. I rang up a local branch and they said yes, they had them in stock. I went to the shop, asked for the kobo and paid my £30. There isn't anything on the box to say it's anything other than the kobo Mini I was expecting. Anyway, hopefully I'll have a new ereader in my hands soon.
