The one I work for goes like this:
Elementary -> K-5
Middle Schol -> 6-8
High School 9-12
With some high schools keeping their freshmen in a separate wing.
The Christian school I went to did it like this:
Kindergarten
Elementary -> 1-3
Middle -> 4-6
Jr.High -> 7 & 8
High -> 9-12
