I don't know if you use Android, but I recently found this app and imported my exported catalog csv into it for the same reason. It allows for custom columns, mapping ad more if you choose. You can import the images too if you wish or have the app look them up.

Why not use Calibre to keep track of ALL your books?
That is what a 'empty book' is about: Look at the features of 'Add from ISBN'.

Also, there are Plugins Import List ( CSV)
I am grateful you mentioned the import from csv plugin...i hadn't seen one yet, and really need one. I want to create empty books in my "Catalog" library for comics and such and this makes life easier
