Version 0.9.34 & DOCX_INPUT Plugin
I downloaded Windows Portable first, I use portable to try things etc, its not my 'production' version.
I 'installed' it over the top of the existing one and started as I normally do - select C:\Program Files Portable\Calibre Portable 32\calibre-portable.exe in my file manager and hit enter
Nothing, nada, zilch - Calibre not reporting for duty, gone AWOL
Opened task manager - calibre-portable was running as an application, but the task bar had nothing to indicate that it was. So I killed it and started it again - voila there it was (and the task bar had the icon to say so), first thing I did was to look in Plugins for DOCX_Input and as I anticipated - it was gone.
Had a play around portable and decided to download and install the 64 bit version. Closed calibre portable, verified it was gone in Task Manager. I installed 64 bit over the top of the existing one and started as I normally do - click the Calibre icon that's pinned to the task bar .
Nothing, nada, zilch - Calibre not reporting for duty, gone AWOL
Opened task manager - calibre was running as an application, but once again the task bar had nothing to indicate that it was. So I killed it and started it again - voila there it was (and the task bar had the icon to say so), first thing I did was to look in Plugins for DOCX_Input and as I anticipated - it was gone.
I repeated the exercise with the 32bit version on another computer, but on this occasion I removed the DOCX_INPUT plugin before I installed the new version, when I started calibre it behaved normally.
Conclusion - On Windows if you have the DOCX_Input plug-in installed then Calibre may not 'report for duty' the first time you run it, and you'll have to kill it with Task Manager.
Suggestion - On Windows, if you have the the DOCX_Input plugin installed, remove it before you install Calibre version 0.9.34.
