If you're looking for deep character development try Lori Wilde's Jubilee series. Most Overdrive Libraries have them. I've only read the first book but gave it 5 stars. It wrung me out. I went into expecting it to be a funny sexy story and the first chapter follows that formula then it gets you right in the heart for the rest of the pages. The woman can write!

You're right about them being quick and easy reads. And I did want to finish out the Bluegrass series because they did have story arcs throughout and I wanted to know how it all ended up. (In an bow, of course!)
I have the first (and maybe the second) of the Jublilee series. I remember when you posted about it right after you read it... so I'm waiting for the right time to be able to dig in emotionally
