Correcting my mention of Adobe needing the filter to be manually added, in case I misled anyone; after having a bit of time to get over memory lapses I think it was that Adobe X and XI installed the iFilter themselves, earlier versions did not, but I have not hunted down Adobe's advice on that to check.
