Oh, that's a very good rule! I forget about sampling lots of times because it's not available on the Canadian Amazon site so only do it when I can't decide if I really want a book or not. But yes, that is an excellent 'rule' to help cut down impulse buys.

I technically don't have a budget. I just know I'm very frugal and that my book buying needs to come under control. I think for a couple of weeks I was spending $20ish a week which is a bit more than I feel comfortable with so I'm trying to keep it down to $10-$15ish a week instead. I think your rule on paperbacks should stand, a swap is a swap! [hey, we all have our own addendums to book buying!]
