I adore Hand's writing if not always her endings and this book won the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Adult Literature in 1996.

Wow! That was really worth it!
Elizabeth Hand really is a marvellous writer. Her prose is magnificent. And I always love the central characters she creates. This story just carried me away, enough that I resented being away from it for too long.
Like other books the ending is kind of like the pile-up at the end of a long car chase. But this didn't really bother me. The only real issue that made my lip curl was the introduction of a random character with obscure knowledge that triggered the penny dropping. That famous moment: "Wait! What did you say?!". Argh!
Now - it's on to an indie again. Our own Terry C. Simpson's
Game of Souls. I've read a couple of good things about this book from some members here so I'm hoping to have a similarly satisfying experience myself.
