The problem we are all facing is that the author wants this to be a crime of opportunity. She probably wouldn't have a BB gun in her purse. That's why I like 'the metal rat-tail comb to the temple.' She'd have that in her purse as part of her cosmetics.
(But a silenced H&K MP7 would be pretty neat.
