If you're using OS/X you could use Spotlight to search the Calibre Library folder.

If you're using Windows you could use DocFetcher to search the ePUBs in your Library folder, if your books are also in say PDF, then you could use Windows Search to search your library folder

If you're using Linux you could use Recoll, and there's a plugin that integrates Recoll into Calibre

Spotlight, Docfetcher, Windows Search and Recoll are normally installed so that they build search indexes in the background. Hence the searches are normally a lot faster than Quality Check.

I use Windows Search on a library of 24,000 books and I get a sub 3 second response, my colleagues report similar response times from Spotlight on a similar size library. From Windows Search and Spotlight its easy to create a file list that can be used by the Import List plugin.
