You might consider some of the 9.7" tablets available. I read a lot of computer programming pdfs on my Le Pan TC 979 9.7" tablet. Mantano is my goto app for reading pdfs. It will autocrop the PDF, which you can fine tune if it's not exactly what you want. I usually read in landscape mode and vertically scroll the pdf. It works really well for me.
