This presumes a choice will be made ahead of time.

There are 4 possible outcomes in my house, all of which happen regularly, because the couch where I usually read is in front of the TV:

1. The movie is not really "good" i.e. I'm not interested it; I will read my book while my husband watches the movie.

2. The movie may be good but I choose to read the book anyway. Nevertheless it grabs my attention and I half-watch it while half-reading my book and end up satisfied with neither.

3. The movie may be good but I choose to read the book anyway. About 15 minutes in I realize I want to watch it and start watching the movie while annoying my husband with questions about the first 15 minutes.

4. It's a movie I have been waiting to see and really want to see. I put down my book and watch the movie, because the movie will go back to netflix before I have to return my book to the library.
