If you just want to show someone something, like "I loved this paragraph on page 133, the 4th one" that's completely okay (though I would prefer to have a part of a sentence to do a search, as in "that paragraph that started with ..."), but I think for academical purpose it's still problematic.
Or if you want your students to read a certain paragraph, starting there, ending there...
But I don't think you could use that for a bachelor paper, for example (or would be allowed, that is).
