It's a growing trend among producers to remove features to lower price. Producers are zeroing in purely on the features required by only the vast majority of users in order to secure market-share. One downside of this is that we are seeing increasingly feature-poor ereaders.

I suspect the way forward in the future will be a a purely hardware-platform oriented producer providing a feature-rich ereader. They will not sell books. They will only sell a platform. It will have to cost more. Logically, it will be an open Android platform.

As E-ink screens improve, we will hopefully see e-ink tablets. This will revolutionize e-readers.
