Yes that's my reasoning too for keep both. My Keeper shelf is named just for that. I should say I store my books laying down horizontally stack on each other. So that shelf has quite a few on it.
It keeps the spines in good shape. Yes I am one of those who never creases her book's spine. Nothing annoys me more then finding a book like that!
