My dad, who's 82, recently started losing his sight to macular degeneration. He's never used a computer in his life, but I set up a laptop with linux, and set FBReader to load automatically on boot. I put a pile of SF ebooks on it (his favourite!), we put bright tactile stickers on the keys he needs to use and he loves it. We set up the typeface and colours so he could read them perfectly, and he's back to reading fiction after over a year without. His social worker and eye specialist are really impressed too, and don't seem to have seen anything like it before.
So thanks to the FBReader people for making my dad happy!
