I will third Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. It's been sitting on my bookshelf since Christmas. I gave it to my mother to read and she hated it. I think it'll be right up my alley.

I will also nominate Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri. It is a collection of short stories that won the Pulitzer and the Hemingway Foundation/PEN award in 2000.
