Oh, he fully realized certain items are not able to be shipped outside US manufactured by US companies, esp. tech., but how that affects a Chinese product purchased through a US Storefront/facilitator sent to Canada one must wonder.

However, he was very surprised to find that items as innocuous as an ereader cover might not be shipped from China to Canada... Again wondering what the trade restriction or shipping policy causing that would be? Perhaps import taxes or something the shipper does not wish to bother with, or cannot be quoted up front? I've seen mention of some sort of VAT(like items trading to England) or the like being possible when buying items from Canada through EBay, perhaps it's that, but on incoming goods? C'mon, you Canadians should know the drill on this if you've bought stuff from importers.
