A lot of people bought Apple stock not for the status but the profit, but now is clearly not the time to buy. When my girlfriend bought a hundred shares of Apple stock in the early 90s, individual shares were around fifteen dollars. Imagine how much those stocks were worth right after Jobs died, which is exactly when she sold them.
