People buy Apple for the status, not just the iPhone but Apple stock.
I have no doubt that rich kids in China demand a Apple plaything over anything by Samsung. This was relayed on an NPR broadcast on kids with ultra-rich parents:
"One girl told our teacher that each year at the spring festival, she might have more than 20,000 U.S. dollars as pocket money."
