There should be some sort of indication of power reaching the device.
Try another Cable/charger.
If you are trying to use a computer port, it may shutdown because of overload (500ma max) because the battery was really flat.
Use a charger without that limit.
This assumes, there is no damage (includes wobble) to the connector on the device
