I have had some success getting the home page more to my liking. For example, I currently have five book tiles, three shelves, and sync on my home screen.

It seems that epubs on the SD card show on my home screen (letting the calibre driver send the covers), but .kepub.epub on the SD card do not. The lack of .epub covers on the SD card (without a driver adjustment) is an acknowledged bug.
