Has anyone verified method a) with the Aura? Are there any other files to be deleted other than the .tgz? (all the instructions are quite old, and might be a little out of date) Will the dictionary updates stick if the firmware update is not done?

I can't remember seeing any details of method b), just a mention of it. Can anyone point to the details?
Method "b" has been mentioned by others here and involves opening the version file and editing the current version number to something higher. I do remember reading a post from someone who tried this on the Aura and reported that the edit subsequently would not stay edited and reverted to its previous state. I have no firsthand experience of this on the Aura nor have I recently read any other reports. You can test it yourself before actually syncing with Kobo.

Perhaps the more experienced folks here will offer further information.
